Watts Shimmura


Watts Shimmura, originally from Japan, graduated from the Musashino School of Music in Tokyo, Japan, in 1986. He later studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated with a BA in Performance after studying under Oscar Stagnaro for Latin/Jazz Bass, John Neves for Jazz/Theory/Bass and under Walter Beasley for Ensemble and Theory.

Since that time Watts has performed and recorded sharing the stage with greats such as John Davidson, Chick Corea, Bill Vasilev( Arturo Sandoval,Michael Brecker), Gumbi Ortiz( Al Di Meola), Al Pahanish jr( Powerman 5000), Bobby D( Four seasons) Let's Hangon( Tribute to Frankie Valli ), Bob McCar's South Town Fever, Midnight Brass, Shawn Mayer, Tommy McCoy, Vikki Vox and the Soul searchers

Among other appearances, Watts has performed locally in Ann Reinking’s Broadway Theatre Project at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. He has also performed in a number of live music productions at Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay including the International Show, 70’s Show, Safari Jazz Duo, Rock-a-doo-wop, Christmas from the Heart and Let's Get Loud.
